Can you define your site's purpose in only a few words?

What is the purpose of your website? Do you even know?

Here is a simple exercise that you need to do to answer the question: in just a few words, define the purpose of your site. When I say a few words I mean 5 or 6, literally. If you can't do that, your visitors won't be able to either.

The secret to success in this area is to make the purpose of your site so narrow that it can't be confused in the mind of those reading it.

I used to have one site so jam-packed full of options that it didn't resonate in the eyes of the visitors that truly had an interest; it was just too confusing and had too many options. I had free downloads, sign up for an ezine, free articles among numerous options that could be interacted with. It was too much.

Click-fraud statistics you can count on

We recently talked about being careful about who's reporting and writing about click fraud. The reason is that there are many companies who make money by offering services that supposedly help help you fight it. The problem was that many of these companies basically made up figures to 'scare' you into buying there products.

According to a new report from Click Forensics, which last month revealed the results from its first Click Fraud Index, the average click-fraud rate is approximately 14 percent as an average, far below the outrageous figures that have been thrown around that they were 20-35 percent.

Another interesting aside is that most of the fraud originates in the U.S. and Canada, far different than the warnings we also hear concerning uncertainty of foreign countries.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is planning to acquire Massive Inc.

In a move toward placing strategic advertisements into more of the activities people do online, Microsoft (MSFT) is buying the leader in the field, Massive Inc. which incorporates ads into online gaming and looking at other areas like shopping and social networking.

Currently, online ads that are incorporated into quizzes and games, comprise almost 10 percent of the online ad revenue for last year, coming in at over a billion dollars of the $12.5 billion total spent and is expected to grow in the years ahead. This is according to a report released last week by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Massive Inc. specializes in embedding advertisements into online video games interactively, which has some great potential with its core demographic.

Lowering your cost for PPC advertising

One of the big mistakes that online marketers continue to make is to think that keyword advertising is everything. A lot of honest experts in SEO are beginning to tell their clients that it just isn't so.

Now before I get into this, I want you to know that keyword advertising is a good strategy, but by itself it can financially destroy your business or be cost prohibitive.

There are an endless amount of online marketers that just pour their money into pay-per-click search while they don't make any real efforts in what is called 'organic search.' This is a huge mistake. The reason why so many make it is that it is the easiest thing to do, just bid on some keywords, sit back and watch the traffic come in. That's why it is so enticing to use it as the end-all marketing strategy.

The neglected ezine strategy

With the consistant news about deliverability of email, many online marketers have been scrambling all over the place to make contingency plans and strategies.

Do you know what I think? It's the perfect time to use your ezine list to make great sales and growth.

In my own personal conversations with a number of online marketers that have been around long enough to not follow every story that the media likes to pick up, but rather they continue executing their business plan, they have found that there is a certain percentage of emails that are being more difficult to deliver, but they are still raking in the profits, while a lot of others are doing all sorts of changes based upon something that may not even happen.

When I talk about something that may not even happen, I mean a potential drastic drop in delivery that is so huge that it no longer makes sense to use the email delivery model. That along with the persistent stories that we may possibly have to start paying per email sent.
